SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
Melissa Sumner
Melissa is excited for her fourth year at CBEA as a special education teacher! She has been in the field of education for 18 years. Melissa began her career in the Bronx, NY, working at a day treatment center for students with emotional disabilities. Since moving to Colorado in 2012, she has served as both a special education teacher and a special education teacher coach in Aurora Public Schools. Melissa recently earned her law degree from the University of Denver with the goal of becoming a stronger advocate for students with disabilities and their families. She is also a proud mom of three boys (ages 4, 8, and 11)—including one who is a CBEA student—who keep her and her husband on their toes when she’s not at work!
